Nitin Gadkari Highlights 60% of Fatal Road Accidents in India Involve People Aged 18-34

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari says 60 per cent of fatal traffic tragedies are of people aged between 18 and 34.
Speaking in the Lok Sabha on Thursday, the federal minister for roads, transport and highways, Nitin Gadkari, said that 60 per cent of the 1.78 lakh people killed in traffic accidents in India are aged 18 to 34. He said many people ‘do not fear the law,’ even if they are riding two-wheelers without helmets or running red lights. Not even in such cases does one have a fear of the law. Gadkari said some people don’t want to wear helmets, and others don’t care about traffic signals.

When Nitin Gadkari was first given the road ministry and road transport ministry (sic) to handle, he aimed to cut accidents by half. But he said he would rather have his face covered on Thursday when attending an international traffic accident conference.
Delhi, he points out, top the table of cities, while Uttar Pradesh ranks first in the number of people killed in traffic accidents. Gadkari recalled an accident in which he and his family were involved a few years ago when he defended his position on traffic accidents during a Lok Sabha debate. He was initially admitted to the hospital for a very long time, thanking God and his family for surviving him, saying ‘I have personal experience of accidents,’ and ‘I am, by the grace of God, alive, and I have a family.’
Traffic deaths kill 23,000 people, or 13.7 per cent of the number of road deaths in Uttar Pradesh, the most, and Tamil Nadu, with 18,000 (10.6 per cent). Madhya Pradesh occupies the top spot on the city table in urban areas with 13,309 deaths, or 8% of the total, followed by Maharashtra with 10,542 deaths or 9% of the total. A total of 1,100 people were killed in vehicle accidents in Jaipur; the roads begin driving life and passion out, while in 2022, 14.6 per cent of accidents and 18.1 per cent of fatalities were hit-and-run incidents, the Morth data issued earlier this January.
Morth data also demonstrates that speeding was a causative factor in 71 per cent of deaths and 72 per cent of all accidents in 2022.

According to the data, two-wheelers were the most common vehicles involved in road accidents and the most frequent victims. The highest number of accidents occurred between two two-wheelers.
