‘Utter garbage…’: Pranab Mukherjee’s daughter Sharmistha slams Congress amid Dr. Manmohan Singh memorial row

Sharmistha Mukherjee said the Congress birthday celebration didn’t even ‘trouble’ to name the CWC meeting after Pranab Mukharjee passed away in 2020. Former president Pranab Mukherjee’s daughter, Sharmistha Mukherjee, has slammed the Congress for now not protecting a Congress Working Committee (CWC) assembly after her father’s death. She, however, backed the Congress’s request to the Centre for a memorial location for Manmohan Singh, who passed away at ninety-two on Thursday. Taking to X, Sharmistha Mukherjee stated the Congress did not even “hassle” to name the CWC assembly after Pranab Mukherjee handed away in 2020, saying it wasn’t completed for the presidents of the United States of America.

“When Baba passed away, Congress didn’t even bother to call CWC for a condolence meeting. A senior chief informed me that four presidents had not executed it. That utter rubbish, as I discovered later from Baba’s diaries, that on KR Narayanan’s death, CWC changed into known as & condolence msg became drafted using Baba most effective,” she wrote in a submission. Her remarks came after Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge demanded a funeral vicinity for former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in which a memorial could be built. Also, Sharmishtha sponsored the concept of getting a memorial for Dr. Singh.

“Having said that, a memorial for Dr. Singh is a superb concept. He merits it & also the Bharat Ratna, which Baba as president desired to confer on him, but that didn’t show up, possibly due to motives that don’t need to be spelled out,” she wrote in another X publish. Congress-MHA to and fro on Manmohan Singh memorial
The Congress on Friday said that not finding a vicinity for the cremation and memorial of Manmohan Singh became a planned insult to the United States’s first Sikh high minister.

The party raised the difficulty after the housing ministry said Singh’s remaining rites would be held at New Delhi’s Nigam Bodh Ghat at eleven forty-five am on Saturday with full national honors.

The Union home ministry said on Friday night that the government will allocate space for a memorial of former top minister Manmohan Singh, and this has been communicated to his own family and Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge.

In an overdue night launch titled “Facts of the matter concerning memorial for Former Prime Minister Late Dr. Manmohan Singh,” the ministry stated that the authorities acquired a request from the Congress chief to allocate an area for a memorial for Singh. Immediately after the Cabinet assembly, Union Home Minister Amit Shah communicated to Kharge and Manmohan Singh’s family that the authorities would allocate an area for the memorial.

In the meantime, cremation and other formalities can occur because a trust must be formed and space allotted to it, the housing ministry stated.

Singh, who headed the Congress-led UPA government and is credited with economic reforms, passed away on Thursday at 92.

He becomes India’s high minister for 10 years between 2004 and 2014.
