A residence caught fire in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district on Wednesday morning, resulting in six humans suffocating to death, along with a former deputy superintendent of police and his 3-year-old grandson, reported PTI. Four other people injured in the incident had been undergoing remedy in a health facility. According to police, locals noticed the residence on fire around 2:30 am and rushed to rescue its occupants. The deceased had been recognized as eighty-one-year-old former deputy SP Avtar Krishen Raina, his daughter Barkha Raina, son Takashi, Ganga Bhagat, 15-year-old Danish Bhagat, and six-year-old Advik, a police officer said. Those injured and undergoing remedy are 61-year-old Swarna (the wife of Avtar Krishen Raina), 40-year-old Neetu Devi, 15-12 months-old Arun Kumar, and a 69-yr-old lady. The family of the former DSP began dwelling in a rented residence.

 

Union Minister Jitendra Singh condoled the deaths, saying that he had become in contact with the administration over the problem. “Deeply taken aback to find out about the accidental demise of 6 individuals of a family resulting from a fireplace incident inside the Shiv Nagar region of Kathua metropolis,” stated a post on X using Singh. Dr. Surinder Atri, the important of the sanatorium, said that initial investigations propose the victims died of smoke inhalation and suffocation, including that no burn injuries had been pronounced.

 

“It is an unlucky incident. Our assistant matron, who had retired recently, was dwelling in the rented house. The incident occurred between 2 am and 3 am. She is known as over the phone, and I right away informed the police and fire brigade,” the health practitioner stated, in step with PTI. Rocky Sharma, a student, said he changed into studying late at night when he noticed the heart and rushed to the residence in conjunction with others. “The fireplace had engulfed the drawing room, and the smoke that seeped into different rooms resulted in the deaths,” he told the information employer. The police have registered a case and initiated an investigation into the problem.
